License Committee


The Marketplace License Committee advises the Commission on rules regarding Marketplace vending, fee setting, and works with vendor applicants to guide them through the approval process for vendor carts. It also advises the Commission on licensing rules, regulations, license suspensions and other activities which may be licensed by the Marketplace Commission, including the determination of appropriate fees, creation of rules and regulations, review of product(s), and approval of vending licenses.

All Committee meetings are open to the public. The license committee meets the first Monday March-July. Meetings are held at the Church Street Marketplace office, 2 Church Street, Suite 2A.

This committee consists of:

Three Marketplace vendors (elected by their peers through a selfnomination procedure and approved by the Marketplace Commission)

Two Marketplace nonvendor merchants (recommended by the License Committee and approved by the Marketplace Commission)
 

TYPES OF CART VENDORS ON THE MARKETPLACE:

CART VENDOR: Sells goods and/or food and/or nonalcoholic beverages.
Vendors selling food need to check with the State of Vermont Health Department regarding their regulations. Vendors selling food are prohibited by the City of Burlington from using materials containing chlorofluorocarbons.  

NON-PROFIT CART VENDOR: The Marketplace will support a total of two local non-profit 501(c)(3) organizations that work with either underprivileged youth or on issues related to environmental sustainability in our community. The programs must teach a solid based foundation of curriculum; have a proven track record and broad based community support; sell a product that currently is not being sold on the Marketplace by any other vendor.  

ARTISAN CART: Sells "arts and craft items" of his or her own creation and nothing else. Applicant may hire employee(s).

LICENSE PERIOD: July 1 - June 30 of the following year. Licenses can begin before and after the above dates and fees are prorated.

Fine arts (painting, photography, sculpture) are NOT part of the cart vendor program. Forms for the “Artists in the Alley” program are available in the Marketplace office or you may download them here and bring them to our office.
