Sponsored by Citizens Bank and presented by the Burlington Business Association, Lake Champlain Regional Chamber of Commerce and the Church Street Marketplace "Burlington Bears Its Art," is a mix of community, art, business and an ongoing non-weather dependent event beginning in May and lasting through September.
Similar to "The Cows Come Home," project in 2010, fiberglass bears will be on display at the Marketplace and in the greater Burlington area. The bears will not only serve as street art and enhance the ambiance of the Marketplace, they will provide recognition for both sponsors and artists while generating revenue for area businesses and increasing tourism in the downtown.
HOW IT WORKS: Fiberglass arrived as "blank canvases" and were then sent to local artists in March. After the design is finalized, bears will be on display in the downtown and the greater Burlington area, May 10-October 11.
After the viewing season, each bear will be auctioned off online at www.biddingforgood.com, partial proceeds will benefit the Committee on Temporary Shelter (COTS).
COTS has been nationally recognized for its innovative strategies in preventing homelessness and continues to be Vermont's largest shelter and service provider. In additon to meeting some of the most urgent needs in our community, COTS advocates for long-term solutions to end homelessness by providing aid in creating sustainable budgets and stabilizing housing as well as emergency shelters for families and overnight shelter for single adults.
