The work of UVM professor Steven Budington explores the boundaries of figurative painting. His fantastical characters combine the consumer prosthesis—gortex, ski goggles, hearing aids—with details from anatomical textbooks some of them literally flying apart. Painterly, beautiful and monstrous they form a hypnotic and surreal futuristic mythology. Budington is a 2004 graduate of the Yale MFA program in painting.
