Attractions

  • Battery Park

  • Located at the top of Battery Street in downtown Burlington, this historic park, deeded to the City in 1870, boasts a panoramic view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondacks, with a promenade, playground, monuments, and a bandshell. The park is also host to a series of concerts throughout the summer on Thursday and Sunday evenings.
  • Bike Path

  • Burlington's Waterfront Bike Path is a 7.6 mile recreational route that runs from the southern end of Burlington at Oakledge Park to the northern end at the Winooski River, where it connects via the newly constructed (spring 2004) bike path bridge to the Colchester Bike Path.  The Bike Path rides along the Lake Champlain shoreline, offering wonderful views of the lake and the Adirondack Mountains to the west.  The bike path links six major waterfront parks, along with the Burlington High School and the central Waterfront district.

  • Burlington's Waterfront

  • With its spectacular views of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack Mountains, Burlington's waterfront is one of the community's most important visual and recreational resources; and rather than being a far-flung attraction, our waterfront actually marks the western edge of the downtown area. Over the last decade, the city has improved park and open space and made infrastructure improvements to ensure pedestrian, bicycle and vehicle access (and a free College Street Shuttle connects the Church Street Marketplace, the University of Vermont and Waterfront). It provides a sweeping range of cultural, recreational, social, and economic activities for the entire community. www.enjoyburlington.com/Parks.cfm
  • Fishing Pier

  • Adjacent to the Coast Guard station on the waterfront is this easy-access facility, which is handicapped accessible and lighted. Parking is free, too.
  • Leddy Park

  • Located in Burlington's New North End, on Leddy Park Road, just off of North Avenue, Leddy Park is Burlington's largest park, with four lighted tennis courts, five soccer/ball fields, a basketball court, squash/racquetball court, natural areas, trails and a playground with restroom facilities. It's 1,800' of lakefront includes a sandy beach and grassy picnic area with plenty of shade, grills and picnic tables.  Leddy Park is accessible via the Burlington Bike Path and has ample parking for beach and park users.

  • North Beach

  • North Beach is located at the end of Institute Road off of North Avenue, just past Burlington High School and right off the Burlington Bike Path. Open May 1 through Labor Day: $5 per vehicle daily parking fee ($8 for non-residents) between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Amenities at North Beach include a grassy picnic area with grills and picnic tables, a full service snack bar open daily 11am-6pm, rest rooms and foot showers, as well as the new picnic shelter which accommodates groups of up to 70-80. North Beach has a beach wheelchair available for use by the public - please inquire about availability at the lifeguard station.

  • Oakledge Park

  • Oakledge Park features 2400' of waterfront, including a swimming beach with a rocky shore and spectacular sunsets. Purchased by the City in 1970, Oakledge Park was created on the site of the last of the Webb family farm barns and Oakledge Manor, which were bulldozed to make way for the park's construction. Park facilities include a playground, three tennis courts, two softball fields, a multi-use field, volleyball courts, walking trails and two picnic shelters with restrooms, picnic tables and grills. Oakledge marks the southern end of the Burlington Bike Path, which cuts through the park.  Note, there is no lifeguard coverage at Oakledge Park.

  • Skate Park

  • The Burlington Skate Park is located on Lake Street, just north of Waterfront Park. This facility, for skateboarders, bikers and in-line skaters offers rails and ramps, boxes, a half bowl and half pipe.  Adjoining the park to the north is a lighted in-line hockey rink which is flooded in the winter for ice skating.  Parking, vending machines, picnic tables, bleachers and restroom facilities are available at the site. The Skate Park is free and open seven days a week April through October. Operation of the Skate Park is weather dependent - the Department may not open the park due to inclement weather.

  • Waterfront Dog Park

  • Located just north of Battery Park, this site provides access to the lake and can be reached via the bike path. It is a walk-in area only, with parking available at the north end of Waterfront Park or at North Beach. It is open year 'round at all hours.
