- A non-profit, volunteer-based group whose mission it is to foster and celebrate local music, Big Heavy World helped construct a radio station, open an online music shop and public music library, and has built a busy music office staffed by volunteers. In its 13 years of operation, the organization has released 15 compilation CDs and maintains a site that contains the most comprehensive band gig schedules in the state.

ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center at the Leahy Center for Lake Champlain is a $14.5 million waterfront project that was ten years in the making. Its exhibits highlight the ecological, geological, biological, and cultural history of the Lake Champlain Basin, and include Awesome Forces Theater (800 million years compressed into 6 minutes of crashing, flashing, caving glaciers, and continental collision!), a water-play space for kids to build dams and float boats, and an Atlantic tide pool touch tank with periwinkle snails, horseshoe crabs, sea stars, anemones and urchins. Beautiful views of the lake are a constant, as is a café, gift shop and multiple meeting rooms next to the live animal exhibitions.

The UVM Theatre Department's company of actors presents a variety of performances during the academic year at the historic Royall Tyler Theatre on campus. Its season consists of three major productions, an annual holiday event, and a festival of one-act plays in the spring that is the culmination project of the senior directing class.

- Founded in 1974 in the European festival model (a variety of interrelated musical events in a variety of gorgeous settings), this signature celebration of classical music quickly grew from a few small gatherings to a true destination event, which now draws upwards of 16,000 visitors annually to concerts throughout Vermont.
